Requirements for plug-in solar PV systems (September 2026)
Beginning in September 2026, all newly installed plug-in solar PV systems must feature an IP65-rated external 13 amp socket, positioned within 5 meters of either the panels or the inverter. For smaller residential systems with an inverter capacity of up to 3.68 kW, it is essential to notify your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) by submitting a G98 form.
It is important to inform your local DNO within 28 days of installing your plug-in solar system. The G98 notification process requires you to install first and notify your DNO afterward; they cannot refuse this notification.
- Your inverter must be G98 type-tested—be sure to check the ENA register before submission.
- If your inverter is not type-tested, you can complete the testing yourself online in approximately 20 minutes.
- Missing this notification window may lead to complications with insurance, smart meters, or property sales.
